Emergence Easter Postcard

We love what we do, but some jobs confirm that more than others. A few weeks back we had the chance to design a really cool poster/postcard and newspaper ad for the emergence Easter service. The really neat thing about it is that this year emergence is hoisting a huge tent on premises to accomodate the holiday growth, and the creative challenge was how to promote this.

it seemed like an easy fit to combine a vintage feel with the idea of old 1920′s style prints.

It started with a font:

and was combine with this:

and then after a little work, some warping, a little color, and some balance we got this:

The font treatment and the background (a scan of an old piece of parchment paper) really were the elements that set the tone of the project so we could have a little more fun with the tent illustration, I was able to use my trusted method:

Sketch the idea on graph paper + refine the sketch + trace the sketch with micron pen + scan the trace =

after that its a matter of finding the right balance in the colors, effect and typesetting.  In the end this is what we made:
